UC STUDENT HOUSING CLASS ACTION
The hyperinflated state of local housing markets impacts student housing at California universities to the point where financially underrepresented students may suffer a kind of the same “servitude” increasingly seen in normal housing markets all over the United States. Housing services that are falsely characterized as "affordable" breach the social contract permitting service providers several benefits that come with the title "affordable housing" while excluding renters from housing services that are realistically affordable. Inflation goes so far until it becomes a bubble, as our society has already experienced as a major consequence of unlawful lending practices. Today, homeownership is too commodified for many Americans to afford to own or even rent a home off of one job like used to be normal, and tough choices to balance the costs of life between multiple jobs is normal today instead. For example, academic goals, important events, and life opportunities can be missed due to the pressures of meeting a budget.
